Before the mad rush of the C word which begins to dawn upon us all this time of year, I thought it would be good to squeeze a little get away in before the end of the year to slow down the rush just a tad! It was also mine and my other half's anniversary, so it was just another reason to go! Edinburgh was an obvious choice for me. I had been wanting to go for a while, and have mentioned wanting to go in a previous post. We travelled by plane because it was only an hours flight, plus we didn't fancy sitting in a car for 8+ hours!
I was NOT disappointed! Edinburgh just felt like a dream. I was constantly looking up and around at buildings, in complete awe at the beautiful city! Edinburgh wasn't too big, so it was pretty easy to get around, which meant we walked A LOT. I mean A LOT. So much so, that my legs ached everyyyy morning from the day before. But it was so worth it!
The first day we got there we did a cheeky bit of shopping on Princes Street, where we were actually based, which made it a lot easier to get around as we were smack bang in the centre of it all! As soon as we got out the hotel we were there! And right in front of us was the castle! In the evening we went for a walk and watched the fireworks going off all around the city. We found ourselves down by Arthurs Seat where it was all happening! It was SO fab to see all the fireworks lighting up different parts of the city!
Of course we had to take a trip up to Edinburgh Castle whilst we were there! I really enjoyed exploring the castle and reading on the history of the castle as well as the city itself! After, we took a walk down Royal Mile!
On our last full day we trekked up to Arthurs Seat, realising about half way that we were REALLY unprepared! We didn't dress appropriately, nor did we bring any water. So I was rather fecked once we had reached the top. But holyyyy crap! The view made me feel so much better! You could practically see the whole city!
I would strongly recommend anyone go to Edinburgh if they ever fancy a little getaway! I definitely would love to go back, perhaps in the spring or summer and see what's going on! I'd love to travel further up Scotland and explore what else it has to offer! Probably bring some better footwear next time!
